WINDOWS POWER TOYS.....Microsoft agrees, the Windows shell can be improved--that's why they put together this package of shell extensions, including one to quickly change your screen resolution on the fly, another to show you the contents of a folder with a simple right click, and many others, including the must-have TweakUI, which allows you to adjust settings in Windows. (Not for Windows 98, which integrates most of the features contained in the Power Toys.)..... (freeware).....GO THERE!

WINOWNER.......... Windows configuration utility. Can modify the Bootup Sequence, Start Menu, Menu, window's behaviour and more. Mainly for the Win9.x environment. Allows you to customise your build via a GUI. Add shell folders to the Start Menu, Change the Start Menu icons, Customise the Start Menu, Change start up logos, Change blue screen of death colours, Change registered user info and much, much more. Definitely worth the download if you use a win9x box. "Change the things Microsoft didn't want you to." Comes in a MDI layout so the look and feel of the program is comfortable.....(free).....GO THERE!

WINTRASHER...........A configuration utility, allows changes to various hidden Win 95/98 defaults, such as the default folders (like "Start-Up"), allows access to virtually all the Windows log files, gives you more back-up options, access to fonts, desktop and start-up options, and does lots more.....(freeware, though a more recent shareware version is also available).....GO THERE!

XCONTROL..........XControl is a shell, desktop and shell customization utility. It is split in to five main sections: Icon Control, Restrictions Editor, Tip Editor, System Engineer and Windows 98 section. Icon Control allows you to edit 34 shell icons that are seen around Windows and explorer. The icons available to edit include the Start Menu icons, Default icons for programs, disk drive and folder icons, network icons, My Computer, Network Neighborhood and Recycle Bin icons, Control Panel, Printers and many more. Also included is the ability to change the amount of colours Windows uses to display icons. Restrictions Editor applet allows you to impose a total of 36 restrictions on Windows, locking out users from certain parts of Windows.All the restrictions are editable individually. Tip Editor edits the Windows 95 Tips of the Day that are displayed when Windows loads. All the tips are editable seperately. Also, you can restore the Tips to their defaults, or restore tips individually. System Engineer has settings which change the operation of Windows. Included in the settings is the ability to change the Startup / shutdown screens, special folder locations, registration information, menu popup speed, setup locations, names of Windows objects, ability to add items to context menus in explorer, show a message at logon, and many more settings. Windows 98 section has settings for Windows 98 users only. Windows 98 users can still use most of XControl, however this section's features apply to Windows 98 only. X-SETUP 5.5..........A new build of one of the most far reaching Windows tweaking programs: From simple boot options up to server settings, X-Setup allows you to change more than 400 hidden functions with some simple button clicks. Some topics X-Setup covers: Windows, Internet Explorer, Instant Messaging, Office, Explorer apperance, Server options, Network settings and Security. Works for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. And it is everywhere you need it: either in Start - Programs or as a symbol in Settings - Control Panel. Although it offer lots of features, X-Setup is extremely easy to use. X-Setup offers wizards that allow you to change your system in a step-by-step process.
