First, our policies--

At Shell Extension City we do not provide programs, but only links to sites where you can download programs. And we do not test every program listed. So you should understand that you download and install any program listed on this site at your own risk.

Of course, we are interested in our visitors' well being, and want their experiences with Shell Extension City to be very positive. So if we receive any serious--and verifiable--complaints about any program listed here, we will delete the link.

Second, policies we suggest you adopt--

With any software downloaded from the internet, whether it is from one of the large freeware/shareware sites or any other, you should exercise a certain degree of caution. This means that prior to installing, you should take two steps:

1. Before installing any item which will change your system registry (including virtually any new program), make sure you have made a back-up copy of the registry. That is, copy C:\windows\system.dat and c:\windows\user.dat to a disk for safe keeping, and if you develop some serious system problems, just copy them right back into C:\windows. This should completely restore your system if the problem was a corruption of the registry.

2. Before using any program downloaded from the internet, perform a virus check. Free virus checking tools are available at a number of sites. Click here to see a list of some of the top freeware and shareware antivirus sites. Or here's a free Norton AntiVirus download.

Finally, you should understand that many shell extensions are geared toward advanced users, so make sure you read the directions and understand them and what the software will do to your system before installing.
